KICKFIT MINDS PROGRAM
A dynamic well-being program for teens & young men
The battle for teens and young men to give their well-being a fair go is getting tougher in today’s world.
Teens have this habit of piling on the pressure to match up with society’s idea of being a man. But not ticking all those boxes can mess with their heads – cue the self-doubt, the nagging self-critique, and the endless overthinking.
And society’s changing, but they’re getting all these mixed messages about what being a man is supposed to be now. It’s leaving many of them feeling a bit lost in this whole transition, and it’s bringing some unexpected issues to the table.
Some of the common issues they grapple with are:
- Academic pressures and stress
- Expressing themselves and talking openly
- Feeling alone and missing a solid community connection
- Behavioural addictions like gaming and social media
- Managing expectations from parents, teachers, and themselves
- Navigating relationships
- Figuring out who they are and what they want in life
- Struggling with motivation and self-confidence
Their physical health is also taking a hit, with more sitting around, increased stress, poor sleep, and not enough exercise. Many teens are dealing with the effects, like weight gain and declining fitness.
As more research shows the connection between mind and body, it’s clear that declining physical health can impact mental well-being. Without addressing the basics, it’s like trying to play a game console without a controller—everything is in place, but nothing works as it should.
On top of that, teens are often avoiding the big questions: Who am I? Why am I here? What’s my purpose? Not having answers to these can mess with their sense of direction.
With all these challenges, it’s no surprise teens are struggling, that’s why our KickFit Minds program is here to change up the game!
WHAT IS THE KICKFIT MINDS PROGRAM?
WHAT IS THE KICKFIT MINDS PROGRAM?
“KickFit Minds combines professional group counselling with physical activity. It starts with a martial arts-based group workout that’s suitable for all fitness levels. Martial arts serves as a great tool to connect its core principles—respect, discipline, focus, resilience, and responsibility—to the everyday lives of the young men in the program.
After getting their bodies moving and the blood flowing, the young men dive into structured activities and group discussions on the topics that matter to them, such as improving communication skills, boosting self-confidence, and understanding their life’s purpose.
The sessions are designed to be fun, relatable and supportive, creating a safe space for teens to address their specific needs, facilitated and guided by an experienced counsellor and personal trainer.
A key aspect of these sessions is recognising the important link between mind and body. KickFit Minds aims to leverage this connection to enhance overall well-being and help teens make the most of both their mental and physical health.
WHO IS IT FOR, AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
WHO IS IT FOR, AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
This 8-week program is designed for any young man or teen who wants to level up their well-being, whether they’re facing specific challenges or just want a greater insight into themselves and the world around them, this program can be a real game changer for all.
Sessions take place at schools, youth groups, and community centres across the Gold Coast. They are capped at 12 participants to ensure everyone gets enough attention and a fair chance to participate.
During our 75-minute sessions, we generally stick to a structured routine:
- Check-In: We kick things off with a casual check-in to see how everyone's doing.
- Martial Arts Principles: We explore a principle of martial arts, such as discipline, and engage in a structured discussion about what discipline is, why it’s important, and how we can apply it to our own lives.
- We engage in a martial arts-based workout featuring fun team fitness drills, followed by practising new combinations on the pads. This approach promotes both physical fitness and mental alertness.
- Follow-Up: We take a quick look back at what we tackled last time and make sure we're making progress.
- Structured Activity Segment: Each session includes a focused exploration of key topics through carefully designed activities, tailored to resonate with teens and support their personal growth.
- Guided Discussion: We engage in facilitated discussions where we collectively share insights and discoveries.
- Actionable Planning: To wrap up, we collaboratively identify practical steps to integrate what we've learned into daily life, helping to put new insights and skills into action.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
Community and connection
It’s a platform for shared experiences and a sense of community. Engaging with other teens who are in the same boat and facing similar challenges can be comforting and remind them that they’re not alone.
Different perspectives
One of the standout advantages is gaining access to different perspectives. In a group, the young men can tap into the collective insights of the others. This mix of knowledge can offer fresh solutions and ideas they might not have thought of by themselves.
The power of endorphins
Starting with physical activities, followed by group discussions unlock the benefits of endorphins. These natural mood boosters not only make you feel happier but also facilitate a sense of calm. As a result, the young males find themselves more open and engaged during group discussions, optimizing the effectiveness of the sessions.
Accountability and encouragement
Group work also builds accountability. Knowing that team members are relying on their participation can be a powerful motivator to stay committed and consistent on their journey to enhanced well-being
So why not give it a try? Teens who completed the 8-week program reported experiencing:
- More self confidence
- Fresh perspectives
- Greater sense of community
- Improved fitness and better self-image
- Better communication skills
- Greater self insight
- Renewed sense of direction
- Better decision making skills
MEET THE FACILITATOR
MEET THE FACILITATOR
Hey there, I’m Andy, the bloke behind B2B and the one who will run the KickFit Minds program. I’m an accredited ACA counsellor and P.T. with experience and a genuine interest in helping young men and teens get on track.
After many years of neglecting the importance of my physical and mental health and undervaluing the power of community. I had the realization (rude awakening) that both are fundamental to being a happy and productive person.
Neglecting these vital aspects is like playing the game of life with one hand tied behind your back. You’re missing out on the full experience, and more importantly, creating unnecessary hurdles on your path to becoming the man you want to be.
I created KickFit Minds to give group programs the community feel that many young males need right now. It’s designed to be a supportive and dynamic environment where teens can explore and address the challenges they face today in an engaging and active way.
I am a firm believer that once you can harness your physical and mental health everything else starts to fall into place.
